Digital Detox | Day 1
Today marks the first day of my self-imposed digital detox. What does this mean? On my iPhone, I've removed all apps except for the Phone, Messages, Calendar, Clock, Contacts and Settings. On my iPad, the only remaining apps are Books, iCloud, Safari and Settings. I'm pretty confident these are the only absolutely essential apps I need to survive in this digital world. Everything else (like accessing Instagram, reading the newspaper, etc) can be done through Safari or on my laptop. If I need to. Or want to.
So what do I hope to achieve? Ultimately, a greater intimacy between family, friends, colleagues and the world around me. So often, I can't help but notice every person on the train is absorbed in their electronic devices; mindlessly scrolling through 'infinity' (i.e never-ending) apps. What real value does this bring to our lives? I hope this small act of a digital detox will bring a greater peace, less stress and a more positive outlook to my life.
