Jan Brandt is the artist/owner of Jan Brandt Gallery in Bloomington, IL. Brandt curates rotating artist exhibits in "The Guest Room" at JBG. Her textile installation work has been exhibited nationally, including shows in San Francisco, New York, Boston, Chicago and locally in the Bloomington Normal area.
Ms Brandt holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, both from Illinois State University in Normal, IL. She was awarded High Merit in Field of Study by the Fine Arts faculty. Brandt's work has been included in multiple publications, including American Art Collector, Create!, Creative Quarterly and Poets and Artists.

I mostly paint with acrylics, but enjoy other mediums also such as watercolors, oil pastels or chalk pastels.
I like to paint abstracts with lots of colour and details.
Although I followed two drawingcourses in my thirties I would call myself autodidact.
Growing up I had my father as inspiration, he was an artist and painted and drew a lot.
He inspired me to sketch a lot, which I did when I was younger.

Weaving is my meditation.
I don’t like symmetry. I never have a set plan. Each weave intuitively evolves; an emotion, a thought, a narrative, converged into a tangible woven piece.
Working in partnership with the artisan weaver of rugs, GUR invites artists to express themselves on this support with a very specific technique using the same materials with the authenticity of a traditional kitchen rug but now much more fun. GUR can be the first place where you put your feet in the morning, a picnic friend or a frame in your living room. Hopefully the collection will keep on growing with new collaborations, keep on checking then!
