Crazy end-state for Makibox:
@spoon looks like we own some collectors items ;)
I started working on recycling my Makibox into a Tantillus but the more I thought about it I realized that a better idea would have been to tweak the Tantillus design to maximize the recyclability of the Makibox parts. It wouldn't involve changing a lot, but a design that re-used the leadscrews and perhaps the smooth rods (with much better mounting and carriage of course) might make it possible to product a completely printable upgrade.
That said the "liquidation" price at over $300USD it still doesn't make sense to buy one of these printers, even for parts, but if it falls below $100 it might be another story. I haven't tried putting better firmware on my controller yet but if it will take (and run) Marlin, then the electronics and motors should be useful enough to justify that price.
I thought I had a specific point but I guess I'm just ramblin' about Makibox.
