11/28/2020: The Hood
I've wanted to document and share my surroundings--the backdrops I see every day or at least regularly--since my partner and I moved into a house over a year and a half ago in an area of North Denver. As it goes, I've hesitated to go shooting alone because I don't want to get harassed by the cops like I do for just existing while driving to work in the mornings. Enter my good friend and photographer, Sarah: She drove down on a Saturday morning to join me for an excursion and we got the good early light that oftentimes makes boring interesting. Some of the scenes aren't exactly exciting but I see them as archetypical to my world, and I'm a sucker for archetypes: Empty plazas and car washes, things that pollute, unwanted and discarded possessions, etc. I despise these things for what they represent foundationally but I love them for how they make me feel: This sort of ignored romanticism that's easier to communicate through images than words. That's the goal at least. Here are a few of my favorites.
