Supporting Peace Through Music
Peace starts with the individual. Personal peace contributes to the world’s peace.
Writing music is an act of seeking peace. Writing music is an act of coping in a world full of division, war, injustice, disparity and destruction. Writing music is a way to not feel alone. Writing music is an act of defending and fighting for peace.
We find ourselves with world leaders who speak divisively while our youth lead the way in accepting and including all genders, races, sexualities, pronouns.
When we meditate we find the same world within-love, hate, diminishment, joy, confusion, criticism, grief, wonder-all of it. And on our good days we experience these multitude aspects and yet know we are not these aspects. We can tap into the ever-present hum of life and see that this is who we are. This is where we reside.
It is when we are alone and separate that we lose our connection to peace, to life. Art plays important role in allowing people to not feel alone. Art can turn our attention to the beautiful things in life and instill peace.
When we are connected, when we can see ourselves in others, peace comes naturally.
