Music and Yoga
Whether or not you do yoga with music, there is always a rhythm-your breath. Practicing yoga without music allows you to turn up the volume of your breath and body while finding a silence.
Yoga with music allows you to move with an external rhythm, releasing acute attention to body and breathe and surrendering to flow.
Either way there is a silence that is being achieved-a silencing of the mind. Either way is meditation.
Making music is a meditation too. It is a letting go, a giving up of something within. Starting with a melody and then a rhythm. Deep inside there is a vibration. A vibration felt, not heard. Defying language, the whole song is inside and it comes out piece by piece. Its finished form comes into focus and a moment arrives-a moment of recognition when what was inside has found its full form on the outside. Finding silence again.
