Life as a gift,
This is something we need to learn
We need to accept that life is but a gift.
A gift that will end with our passing,
To really live we have to deal with our end before we can start living,
People die, we die
None of us having changed anything at all,
Our millisecond on earth will be noticed by few and remember for a little time by the ones we loved.
Those are the cards that we are dealt when we are born
And the acceptance of our end will help us to be truly ourselves
To find us, to let us be who we are,
Life will be easier and it will stop being a race to please and show off.
We don’t always like the presents we receive,
They have been chosen more by necessity than by a desire to please.
Post Xmas many second hand shops happily take our unwanted gifts.
And life too at times we feel like giving it away
We want to throw in the towel
And for some of us it will mean making the ultimate choice of handing back that life.
But is suicide ever the right answer.
Life is a gamble too
At times we play, bet, put our money down,
Hoping to win big.
In life as in the lottery we don’t often win
But sometimes we do and then we win over and over again for a time
But the losing streak catches up again and we are out of pocket,
Out of hope, can't see a way towards life.
Sometimes it is better to slow down, bring life to a halt.
And absorb what has been on offer of late,
Loosing, money, job, relationships
Or the ultimate loss, the death or illness of a loved one.
After a time, we do get up and buy a ticket again,
Take a new chance at life.
But when we win.
We are over the moon,
We made it, we showed them all the stuff that is us,
Once we start singing and dancing again,
A lottery ticket can be a bigger step than we sometimes give it credit,
But before any chanting under the hot shower,
We have to take a risk at life,
And taking up the challenge of life is the biggest risk we will ever take.
