"Cosmic Expansion as a Landscape." 20 x 16 inches. Acrylic on canvas.
Landscapes are fundamental. Ground, sky, sun. Things closest to you and then out into the distance and beyond. This normal way of seeing the everyday world's space is a great way to artistically represent the expanding universe.
In this I hope to show the surrounding galaxies and stars as the ground, swirling and flowing, and shifting to red as they get farther away from the viewer. The sky is the cosmic microwave background radiation, the afterglow of the Big Bang. The black hole, a singularity, represents the Big Bang, the primordial singularity.
