The Guardian's detailed article about the US mid-term elections is all well and good. However, it's wasted reading it if, like me, you don't understand US politics. How can this be? I've watched every episode of House Of Cards Netflix has to offer, I should be an expert! But no, I'm completely ignorant. I don't understand the terminology, the process or the result. I don't even fully understand the concept of US-style democracy and how it's meant to work.
I can't be content with not understanding something I find interesting, so today will mostly be spent reading Wikipedia articles until I can gather some basic understanding. Unfortunately these Wikipedia sprees often become something of an obsession which lasts weeks or even months.
Hopefully pretty soon I will be able to have a conversation about the politics of a country I have never and never will step foot in....and at least I'll know for the sake of knowing.
If anyone can recommend any websites, articles or books which might help further my learning, I'd be really grateful if you could share them with me.
