I was living in San Francisco, and wanted to do a picture of someone playing table tennis. So I went to the Chinatown Table Tennis Club, and eventually found Lewis Wei, the coach of the junior team. Lewis has been coaching for over 40 years, and several of his players have gone on to compete at the Olympic level.
We did a few pictures together, then played a few points. His serve was so ridiculously fast and crazy, I couldn't even get my paddle on it. We were both cracking up.
Moments like this are what make being a photographer so rewarding -- the chance to meet someone new, learn a thing or two, laugh together, then go to the next shoot and do it again.
