Casper, Wyoming, a few weeks ago. I woke up before sunrise, made some coffee, and spent a few hours walking around town with my camera (50mm lens, my favorite) while the sun crept slowly into the sky, casting long, low shadows.
Photos like this are less about the subject, and more about the pleasing convergence of light, tone and composition. Or as Julius Shulman would call it, "visual acoustics." Shooting this way keeps my vision sharpened, sort of like doing eye pushups.
More pictures coming from this series soon.
