I went to the FIS Alpine World Championships at Beaver Creek to shoot the Womens' Giant Slalom. I was too late to get media access, so I was limited to the main spectator areas, which didn't give me many options. There is a crash barrier as well as a crowd barrier. It's hard to get close to anything. This was the one spot on the entire course where I could get a clean shot of the racers coming around a gate, using a 50mm lens.
Once I found my spot, I still wasn't entirely sure what I was going to do. So I set up and captured each of the women as they came around this gate with the idea of putting them together somehow. There were so many photographers and cameras there shooting from every possible angle it was hard to imagine how I could make something different.
Many (many) Photoshop hours later, I arrived here.
