The first retrospective of photographer Larry Sultan is up at LACMA through March 22, which includes five major bodies of work.
Not included in the exhibition at the museum is Sultan’s earlier collaboration with Mike Mandel that used billboard space to exhibit random, appropriated designs created under the name “Clatworthy Colorvues.”
I love Oranges on Fire, which LACMA has actually recreated and placed on 15 billboards around LA for the duration of the show. I also learned that Ooh La La! (above) happened in Boulder around 1982.
Does anyone recognize or remember this location? North Broadway?
