Access to the arts is intrinsic to a high quality of life.
I am reading Daniel Pinks book, “Drive” which shows that unlike most corporations and people believe, we are more productive and likely to respond to requests when we find it interesting rather than rewarding. I don’t expect offering a big reward will grow my audience much. One example in the book is that we donate less blood when paid than when not paid.
I will be trying a little experiment in motivation next week by offering $5000 of value, about 90 paintings as free downloads for those who join my https://www.patreon.com/joelbowers site and support me and my artwork at the $5/month level or more. I expect I will gain more supporters before I actually offer the reward than after. If you are not motivated to help me because you like my efforts, my artwork and supporting the arts, you are not likely to be motivated by $5000 worth of paintings for $5.
Most people are less motivated by value and punishment rewards than by their desire to do something interesting and in the public good. I would like to recommend that becoming my patron is something you can do to help the world in general enjoy more art as well as show appreciation for my efforts and receive copies of my paintings.
I typically create and post 6 paintings a day to https://risingrims.smugmug.com/Today/ here is one of todays images.
