"A Trace Of Me" - Esthaem, 2017
Growing up gay means to be confronted with insecurities concerning your own identity frequently, either from the outside world or from yourself. Once you do not fit into society's blueprint of what it means to lead a "normal" life, it is only natural to ask yourself who you are and how you can fit into this world.
In this ongoing project, the artist is dealing with issues surrounding queerness, isolation and general confusion. It is an attempt to process one's own experiences through people that may have gone through something similar, by photographing and interviewing them.
"A Trace Of Me" is going to be a photobook that will show relevant snippets of the interviews alongside the portraits of the participants as well as self portraits and images of every day life, thus blending the artist's own experiences with the ones of the portrayed men - creating a larger narrative that talks about the commonalities of coming into one's own as a gay man.
