Télérama “October 1917” revue...
This issue of Télérama (hors-série) celebrates the “October Revolution 1917 - L’Insurrection Culturelle”… themes covered are the plastic arts, literature, theatre, music, photography and cinema. Its publication was timed to coincide with the 100-year anniversary of the revolution, and contains many graphic photographs of the day and contemporary illustrations by notable artists of the period including Kazemir Malevich, Liubov Popova, Vladimir Tatline, El Lissitzky and Wassily Kandinsky.
Personally my interest in this historic event is tempered because of an odd connection… my late wife’s father was an ardent communist and to him Christmas didn’t exit, so the only present Trish and her two sisters ever received, at this traditional time of celebration and giving, was an orange, which to me has always been a telling commentary on communism which in theory is potentially good - everyone being equal - but rarely works that way... hardship always seemed to result except for those still in control and retaining power.
