These photos are from a couple years ago but The Outbound just posted the photo on Instagram as part of my Explorer Spotlight and I was reminded of those special nights I spent in northern Sweden. Felt like posting them alongside those sunrise photos from last week was fitting, just examples of the surreal colours that the sky can be.
Sleeping out in that tent in the tundra of Lapland was one of the first major risks I took while travelling solo and I remember being quite intimidated the afternoon before I headed out. For good reason—I had a summer sleeping bag, no sleeping pad and just my winter outerwear to keep me warm, so it was a memorably challenging night at -13 ºC. But the lights were worth it. It was just me, the wilderness and the majesty of the skies dancing above.
