Wintertime doesn’t seem so distant in northeast Newfoundland. There’s still a lot of snow around especially in the forests, and the ocean, at least where we were, is full of pack ice. You can feel the ice in the air, if you’re close enough to the ocean. It’s like a freshness in the fog, an edge to the breeze that reminds you how close winter is and how cold the ocean can be. It’s hard to explain but I think this photo helps explain it, with its fog and its blueness. Took this shot in a still little cove on Twillingate Island, which seemed completely deserted. Just us and the ocean, and the remnants of winter.
