Beginning today, I'll be posting a series of photos I shot during my trip to Israel/Palestine. This is part of a series I'll be showing this month at the La Bodega Gallery in San Diego.
I spent two weeks in Israel/Palestine, with equal time in both Israel and the West Bank. I traveled there with friends who work in peacemaking efforts. I met with journalists, academics, clergy, teachers and political tour guides—both Israeli and Palestinian—to better learn about the profoundly complex conflict there and America's role in it. I also was curious about the role art plays in the conflict, viewing some of the compelling street art by Banksy, JR, Blu and others. And I visited the remarkable International Academy of Art Palestine, a university in Ramallah that is helping young Palestinian artists channel the desire for change through art rather than violence.
