This new body of work is a personal project in which my anxieties manifest themselves as monsters. It combines real world environments mixed with miniature sculpture, props, and installations. "Monster_Boyfriend" is a look back at a younger me struggling with sexual identity and the stigma of gay men and hookup culture. "Global Warming" depicts the absurdity of climate change deniers but also the helplessness and disdain of everyday people as this inherently awful thing looms overhead. Finally, "Trump" was a direct response to the election and just the gross, vile, feeling I get in my stomach when I think of him and the current political circus. Anxieties are powerful and can have a physical effect on someone. There's a bit of a therapeutic quality to taking something that seems so large and overwhelming and creating a mini representation of it as a means of coping or poking fun at it. Additional planned scenarios will explore ideas of money, fame, addiction, aging and death.
