A picture in the basement of one of the 19th century fortresses around Antwerp. They were build in 1859 to protect the city against an eventual French or Prussian invasion. Completely constructed of bricks these fortifications soon became obsolete. Some of the fortresses are used for concerts, museums or as a nature reserve for bats. This one, Fort VI, is neglected. The terrain where it's build on belongs to a university. It seems like the university neglects the maintenance of the fortress on purpose, hoping to erase it sooner or later.
