Hello Posture Magazine x Ello!
My name is Jovan Sotelo and I'm a Queer, POC, visual creative, based out of beautiful Las Vegas, NV. Photography is the medium I use to help me cope with Depression and Anxiety. My goal ultimately is to help broaden the conversation about mental illness so that more people can be open about issues that they have with their friends and loved ones. I use my depression and anxiety as a fuel for my work. Themes of love, nature, loss and suicide are constant throughout my art and I would like to present two photo series's that I created to your consideration. The first photo series, "The Last days of Thran" deals with a man escaping crucifixion and his trek across the desert to find nirvana. The other photo series, "The Rebirth of Gabriel" deals with another man, 2000 years later and his own journey. This is played out through a baptism for a cult he's joined that centers around the lost scrolls of Thran. These photos series's are related, and the main theme of finding oneself and the journey it takes to get there is ever persistent. Religious imagery and my profound love for nature play an important role in my work. I like to use the natural surroundings that are all around me to convey a sense of wonder and awe. I would love for you to consider my work, as I feel this would fit perfect with your magazine.
Thank you for you time, I hope to hear from you soon! <3
