So, my last book on my favorite books of 2014 list caught me by surprise. I picked up Ann Leckie's Ancillary Justice at the library on a whim a few days ago, and it blew me away. Ancillary Justice is the first in a space opera trilogy. The protagonist is a space ship, Justice of Toren, who also controls hundreds of AI ancillaries, meaning that parts of the book are told from several points of view at once. In this first book, the ship is destroyed, along with most of the ancillaries, leaving the protagonist with one body intent on revenge. This is a smart, intense book with a gripping story. Definitely one of my favorites of the year.
