“Shangri-la” means paradise. It’s a beautiful and imaginary place where everything is as one wishes. This being my first design collection, I wanted to make it as much to my tastes as I could. I’ve used my favourite colour palette- a mix of white, powder blue, silver, and dove grey- to signify my idea of heaven as being a place of peace and contentment.
The embroidery is mostly floral and the fabrics are comfortable. I’ve used Chantilly lace, denim-Lycra, cotton-Lycra, suede, net, and taffeta. For embellishments, I’ve made use of fringes, rhinestones, bugles, Swarovski jewels and stones, lace, net, and organza.
The garments are for the Autumn/ Winter, 2016 collection of Ricamo India- a Mumbai based export house. Besides making the garments, I also documented my own design process along with the company’s working mechanism and details. The final document, “The Internship Project”, as authored and published by me, now adorns one of the shelves in the Resource Centre of my alma mater- National Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai.
