Anna, a lawyer in her early 40s, spends 20 hours on a plane returning to Paris, following her mother's funeral. Within a couple of days, Nigel (CFO at PAYNE & FIER LLP, the multinational law firm employing her) informs Anna of her dismissal, and offers her a severance package. The offer is more like a gun to her head. Nigel makes it clear that she has no real choice.
