"I Go By David" Part 1
In typical fashion, I raised my hand robotically, and I appeared numb, yet simultaneously nervous.
"K-Ka-Kawee" Mr. Sampson, my meteorology professor, stammered at the efforts of pronouncing my name. Most of the class looked on at him, and a handful at me. It seemed the one who took heed to my futile efforts of staving off the impending verbal butchering of my "oh-so-exotic" name was Evan Merrick. Evan was what one would call, quiet, dark, and very, very attractive.
"Kawee-Kah Valenteen!" Mr. Sampson pushed the sounds from his mouth as if they were forced, his confused tone dripped in the air as my classmates chuckled around me. Evan smirked. My hand still raised, I lowered it as I said,
"I go by David." I said with an irritated tone. The whole room turned to judge this small adolescent, awkward, obviously gay, WHITE "man" with the odd Hawaiian name; ME.
"Welcome to Hattiford High, Mr. -eh- Valentine." Evan said with a smile.
