Karmen Elaine is a portrait photographer in Chicago, Illinois, from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Studied photography and was a 2015 graduate from Harrington College of Design. Currently freelances as a social media manager and photographer for groups around the city.
Karmen began pursuing her passion for photography covering queer events across the city in 2008. Worked with clients such as; No Small Plans Productions, United Artists Assembly, Black Artist Retreat, Howard Brown, Fulton Street Collective, Chicago Abortion Fund, and many more. Published in "Platforms: 10 Years of Chances Dances", and published solo portrait book with project by Red7Salon, cover story photo in "Windy City Times".Member of Agitator Gallery in Wicker Park founded 2017- a co-operative gallery with seven members of different mediums. Inclusion and visibility are important missions in her work. Bending the boundaries of gender bias as often as possible. Not only in LGBTQI representation, but also in creating a platform for folks of all genders, and races to have a safe, affirming portrait session, and voice to tell their stories. In 2015 Karmen produced, filmed, and edited an entire series entitled "Queerbook" a mini doc series on folks in the Chicago area. This project is on going and is pending second part future release Winter 2018. The images selected for this project address gender and bodies without sexualizing them. The future is non-binary.
