History books said it was impossible. for a ruler in monarchy to keep an entire ocean of citizens devoted and happy. there would always be a trickle that wouldn’t agree to the Monarch. His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said proved them wrong. His portraits adorned all of Oman. He built in temples and churches, the true symbol of a secular ruler and country. Oman would be ranked over and over again as one of the most peaceful and best countries and undeniably all the credit would be rightly deserved by the Sultan.
For making and building a home in Oman for us, for our parents. for making sure we never missed out in a single experience just because we didn’t ‘belong’ to the country. I remember being excited when I applied for my first resident card. I remember the joy when I was asked why my birthplace says ‘Muscat, Oman’ when I’m an Indian. and most importantly I remember the warm fuzzy feeling over me when the plane descends over Oman even if I’m returning from the best trip ever. and if anyone’s made life heaven for NRIs, for students it’s none other than our Sultan.
As you Rest in Peace today, I hope you watch Oman flourish to its highest peak. I hope you can grant Oman and us the power to change more lives, to let more people understand what a home means. Oman will always be our country, and we will be proud of it. We may not belong to Oman, but Oman will always belong to us. ❤️
