Kimberly Genest resides in Quebec City, Canada and is currently studying in Fine Arts. She enjoys creating art work that delve into the complex relationship between women and nature. Recently, she's also been exploring her identity as a biracial person: Feelings, both good and bad, as well as the feelings of belonging to two very different cultures, without being fully accepted by either and translates these thoughts and feelings into her art. She has an affinity for fluid medium is why she works mainly with watercolor, ink and gouache.
These three illustration are a part of my artist's book which is about stereotypes, judgments and concepts oriented towards Asians, especially women. In this project, I explore the themes of the sexualization of Asian girls, cultural appropriation, the European beauty the standards that proves to be toxic and my personal experience as a biracial woman.
