Meet fashion designer Clara Daguin
Clara Daguin is a new franco-american, gifted fashion designer based in Paris. Originally from San Francisco, she first studied at CCA in graphic design, then graduated from Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris. Finalist of Hyères festival international de la mode In 2016 , she is now one the nine for Les Étoiles Mercedes Benz price. This emergent creator is a worthy successor of Margiela, Chalayan or Iris Van Herpen : three houses where she worked and took experience from. She mixes perfectly technology and craftsmanship, innovative fabrics, traditional cuts, and futuristic arabesque embroideries in perfect harmony. If you still don’t have a clue of what Clara Daguin’s style looks like, take look at the idiosyncratic light up jumpsuit, worn by singer Conchita Wurst during her performance in Hong Kong (Sept 2016).

Tell us how you fantasized your life as a young designer, before your start up and how it is different or not, in real life : your expectations vs your experiences?
I think I fantasized (and still do!) about creation, about constant renewal and experimentation, about dressing people for special events... My experience is there are many factors that come into play which impose a rhythm to this process, which draw it out and ultimately you're constantly evolving and having to push yourself to slowly make your work recognized. It's a thrilling adventure.
Show for Hyères Fashion Festival 2016
You have included quite a lot of technology into your last collections, do you have a specific tech background, or any fascination for it, or was this just for this collection?
I studied graphic design and was designing websites before I decided to change paths. My father is an engineer and I have a very personal relationship with what it means to need technology.
You were a finalist of Hyeres festival of Fashion, we guess it really helped, but after this, what was the most challenging thing to do next, how to capitalize your nomination at this cult festival, and the sudden fame that comes with it?
The most challenging thing is what I am building at the moment : going from a single collection to developing a brand and a broader story.
