One of the reasons that I find parenting tiring is the need to watch what I say. And no, I don't mean refraining from cursing (my record there is spotty). I mean stuff like this:
Babette and I were watching gymnastics on YouTube, and she pointed to one of the judges. I told her the woman was a judge, but of course that needed explication. So I added that gymnasts compete in competitions, and the judges decide who performed the best that day. If I had been careless, I might have said that the judges decided "who's the best", but I don't want to give her the idea that one performance is the measure of one's entire ability.
And those are the kind of decisions I have to make on the fly, multiple times every day.
