Happy (Bizarro) May Day/International Workers' Day
While The Real Patriots™ of the world, at the bequest of the all-caring ‘stock markets’, protest their God Given Right™ to force workers back to their overworked and underpaid posts at hair salons and IHOPs so they can express their freedom by not tipping because it’s ‘not a real job anyway’, some of us who’d normally stand shoulder to shoulder with comrades will be sitting this May 1st out. Because we care about others.
While it’ll be nice to not have to huff in all the patchouli and nag champa and listen to the same ol chants for another year, I will miss it’s point. I will miss it’s presence. Even as the numbers have dwindled over the past few years, it’s still an impressive thing to be a part of.
Now we will all have to be satisfied ‘doing our part’ by not buying from Amazon or other conglomerates for a day and watching the rest of them grovelling for ‘the economy’ to come back and ‘save’ us.
I thought I’d share some photos of marches gone by to remind you of what solidarity used to look like. I will genuinely miss the patchuli as it comes in a package deal with standing side-by-side with people who care.
