How do you guys work with your editors?
My first editor didn't see my work until the very last draft. She made changes which I then accepted (or not), and that was that. Readers would sometimes catch misspellings later as I didn't have anyone to proofread my work.
My second editor, the one I work with now, has seen and worked on every draft (I do about 3-5, depending on the book), and every time after I would still make big changes which would take her by surprise, and I feel like maybe I should get back to doing all drafts on my own before sending them for the final edit.
I'm debating now...as a self-published author I can't afford to hire a whole team of editors the way it's done in traditional publishing. I also don't do 25-30 drafts as some writers do (or at least 10). Unfortunately, my brain is so ADD, after a few months I have to move on to the next story.
I'm only writing my 7th book, so I'm still discovering the editing process. Let me know yours. Thank you, darlings. XOXO
