Family is fickle. I was hoping to see my uncle and his wife, but they declined under the pretext of high blood pressure (typical excuse, but then again, maybe they really weren't feeling well). My cousin said I'd get to see them today, and I was frankly surprised and, sadly, over-excited. A grim voice told me in my head that it's not happening, just like my sister and mother never met me at the airport. And that voice was right. I only saw my cousin today and her two little boys.
On the plus side, she fed me pancakes with sour cherry jam, and they were delicious. And I lost my need to connect to my non-existing family. For this alone this trip was worth it.
