And now my community Emberville (aka @visitemberville) is my safe place too. It all began with writing a diary (I was 15), then poems, then short stories, then a gazillion tweets and numerous blog posts, and finally, books. I’m writing my 11th book right now (2 of my books are collections of tweets, and 8 are novels). Naturally, the book I’m writing right now is a thriller about a serial killer. A sweet bedtime story. All my books are chronological. They literally cover my life from being an adolescent to being in my late 20s. I’ve yet to go deeper into my childhood (scary), and I’ve yet to cover my later years (scary too). This writing out of my life’s story is what healed me. I have recreated my life with explanations (to myself) of why adults in my life have hurt me. It’s daunting, to write books. But if you have it in you, begin with a short story. Begin today.
