Have been practicing "no checking social media in the morning" thing and had to mentally strap myself to a wall with a chain TO NOT BLOODY OPEN BLOODY INTERNETS. As a result I have spent most of the day thinking, and only a fraction of that time actually writing, but I have solved a major plot problem simply because my head wasn't filled with chaos that usually floats online, especially stuff on Twitter and on the news. I see Ello as a quiet space where I can dump my thoughts once a day and get meaningful responses.
Here is a little horror story for you: I used to spend up to 6 (!!!) hours daily on social media, and with this new routine have managed to cut it down to 2-3. Still too much, and yet...and yet... Where's the balance? I have to keep talking about my writing, as an indie, to keep people thinking about me. The moment they forget about my existence, I'm toast.
How much time do you guys spend online? SPILL YOUR SECRETS.
