Just finished reading A Wrinkle in Time and I tried very hard to be blown away by it, and I wasn't. I liked it, but the references to God and to the "omnipotent father" irked me so bad that had I an almost physical reaction. I have a heavy dislike for religion precisely because it centers on an omnipotent male that to me only exaggerates the exploitation and the degradation of women and children for thousands of years, but usually I'm able to shove it in the back of my mind and still enjoy the story.
So what am I missing? Lots of writers say they grew up on this book and hail it as a masterpiece. Maybe it's because I'm Russian and grew up differently? I dunno.
