Interesting how clichés differ from language to language.
I have a little Note file where I write down new words and expressions I learn from reading books. Things like "his heart was in his mouth" or "color drained out of her face" make me cry out, "WOW! I DIDN'T KNOW YOU COULD SAY IT LIKE THIS!!!" So I write them down into my Notes for future use and feel very accomplished only to find later that these are typical clichés English-speaking writers use to describe emotional reactions, and I should avoid using them.
