I haven't created a particular concept in any of my previous books, i.e., I have named things (like Rosehead, a carnivorous rosebush monster), but haven't had to create creatures like hobbits, for example. In my current book there are badlings - bad children who never finish reading books. And my editor and beta readers are telling me I'm explaining too much. But then I think, "Tolkien explained all about hobbits in the very beginning. How do I do it?" Any wise writers here who can point me to good novels that master this? Thank you. You get a snail. Okay, two snails. Okay, fine. Three snails and a toilet. Do we have a deal?
