Language is a fascinating thing.
So the word “crock” originally meant “pot, vessel” in Old English, but then because people started using crockery as chamberpots to, um, relieve themselves in the middle of the night, the word acquired the meaning of falsehood, fabrication, and worthless rubbish. It also means “to cause an injury to a person.” I wonder if that came from crock fights? As in, you shit in the crock, then you bash the thing on your adversary’s head. My imagination is running away from me here. Someone stop me.
