Am writing a scene of children's ballet recital, and have learned that Mussorgsky composed his Pictures at an Exhibition to Victor Hartmann's drawings and watercolors. Above is the sketch for movement No. 5 "The Ballet of Unhatched Chicks in their Shells," which is an actual design sketch for costumes in the ballet Trilby. The chain of art inspiration bends my mind. And the chicks...they're kind of creepy looking, aren't they?
