The moment you start feeling uncertain of yourself you get anxious and want assurance that you're okay. You check in with other people, without telling them directly what you need (so as not to come across as pathetic) but you don't get it, because they are as occupied with their own uncertainties as you are. And so it goes down the spiral until you see that you have nothing to worry about and can continue being you, uncertain, and what other people think doesn't matter. And suddenly you feel certain and all is good. Until it starts all over again.
