When it comes to reading books, I'm an old soul, often picking out books that have been around for a while. And so I constantly search for books that have been published recently, to read and love. And here is one.
THE GAME OF LOVE AND DEATH by Martha Brockenbrough, my darling friend. it releases on April 28th. She has sent me the advance copy, and I have fallen in love.
What a gift this book is. What a gift. A gift of love. It reads almost like poetry. Every sentence sings. Every scene has light in it, and so much love. So much love. It is a story about a boy and a girl who can't be together according to those who don't want this to happen. They don't belong in their eyes. White and black. Although it could be anything, not just the color of the skin. It could be a family feud like in Romeo in Juliet. History is full of those stories. And yet this one is new, so fresh, so lyrical. It touched my heart. And, of course, it happens in Seattle, and I love Seattle. I live in Seattle, I could trace it in my mind's eye, and I loved it so much more for that. Read it, but read it slowly. Savor it. It's worth every word.
