If you read deep enough into years, going further in time to older novels, it's intersting to see how authors influenced each other, the younger picking up from the experienced, and so it goes like a chain reaction.
I'm reading Anna Karenina, and just came across a scene that I'm positive has inspired Marshak's poem LUGGAGE. Remember? (If you're Russian, of course):
