This year - while the borders are closed all around Europe - Denmark and Germany are celebrating what we in Denmark calls ‘Genforeningen’.
Sønderjylland / Nordslesvig became a part of Denmark again in 1920 after a public voting. It is not that easy just changing borders. Some people gets included, some feels excluded. It has been quite facinating walking between Flensburg and Sønderborg - the history is all around you: Buildings, street names, family names etc.
Both Museumsberg Flensburg and Sønderborg slot, have a special exhibition. The last one is the biggest, and I find it most interesting, maybe because I am a Dane. ;)
Nb! Dont forget to see Isted løven in the Museums Garden. It was placed in Copenhagen until 2011 - and I still miss it. Why it is now in Flensburg, I will leave to you to find out for yourself.
