"Which Side", Silkscreen, 19.6"x24.6" 2018
This piece is in response to the caravan of migrants that have now reached the US border, and begs the question, "which side?" The viewer probably first considers which side of the political spectrum they are on, but when looking deeper the question asks so much more. Which side of the immigration issue are you on politically, what about morally? Which side of the border are you on? How does that affect how you view the issue? The perspective shows the caravan facing us, and the troops marching away, suggesting that the viewer is an American, with the troops heading away to block the migrants from entering the country. The taxpayer money used to send 7,000 troops to the border could've been redirected to fund lawyers and supplies that could've actually helped solve the problem, and helped the men, women, and children fleeing violence in their home countries. Instead that money used for an expensive, fear-mongering publicity stunt. I hope that this piece will inspire more viewers to consider the humanitarian side of immigration, in addition to the political aspect of it, and consider different ways of thinking about these problems and solutions.
