Update: Good site, Ello, I take it back. There has been an update from Ello, they intend to add privacy this fall. That changes things a lot. And that's a faster, better response than many sites have done. I will give you time and patience to develop.
Okay, Ello, you win most ironic web site. Apparently they intend to be 100% public:
" Ello is a platform built for posting and sharing public content. You
should assume that anything you post on Ello other than private messages
will be accessed by others. Search engines will be able to see the
content you post. Content you post may be copied, shared, or re-posted

What is the benefit of joining an ad-free site that promises not to mine or sell our data if it will let everyone else on the internet do so? So, everything you post on Ello can still be mined by Google... or anyone else. If Privacy is supposed to be your killer feature, then why no intention to ever give us any privacy?
It's basically a wordier Twitter with better commenting. Which does have some value. But it's nothing like Facebook or G+. And even Tumblr will let you have a secondary Tumblr with password-protected content. I'm just really sad, because I really, really want a good social networking site, and then this thing came blazing through with a good vision. And yet, it's not a social networking site - it's a mass-publishing site. I can't use it to post stuff about my life or talk to my friends, because it has no privacy and privacy is the most important feature on a social networking site to me. This is why I don't post personal stuff or photos of my family or so forth on Tumblr or Twitter.
I'll still wait and see how it develops, but I was really hoping maybe they'd see the light and give us some privacy, and now it looks like in order for them to do that, they need to actually change their vision of the product they have created, which makes it much less likely. It's not an underdeveloped lack, it's a feature they don't seem to care about.
