I haven't been around here much, but FB continues to get in my face...but the good thing is that FB has taught me a lot about the friends I interact with, or how they became friends of mine (in the FB sense).
I continue to trim my "friends" list, but think I strive for a new beginning. I have to ask myself, are all of those people really my friends? It seems that social networks were not just intended to be with friends. There's a vast world of other myopic people to collaborate with. LOL In that regard it seems like the beginning of the end for me on FB, that I'm not sure.
It seems that I may need to just explore more on Ello and understand who I know is on here.
Now, here's the strange part...about a year or a year and a half ago, I created a second FB account. I created it out of wanting to understand how to build firearms, and several people I met through a gone sour RocketHub project to buy incomplete firearms to finish ourselves. What I found out was that many of my so called "friends" didn't share my admiration for the Constitution, and most specifically the 2nd Amendment in that regard.
I started to post that related content to my other FB account, and amazingly it was better received, or at least people didn't feel the need to tell me what a d!@$ I am for being concerned about our freedoms and all of the Amendments...yeah, most people will tell you they care about our freedoms, but in the end many of them don't even understand what actual freedom is. It appears that some consider freedom to be the extent of their own view. The best example I can give for this is the Jews and the Musslim extremist. I use "extremist" loosely to represent the terrorist that claim they won't be happy until all Jews are killed. In a completely free world they should be able to have that view, and it's hard for Jews to understand that in a free world even those people need the respect of their view.
Then I started to find that many of my friends would become hostile towards me because I beleive Obama has his head in his @$$. I mean, I completely respect the man and he's a smart guy...that's what p!$$e$ me off even more...but not to digress, I learned that many of my Democratic aligned friends just think the world looks great through rose colored glasses. So, I stared to post my political views on my other FB account, and ironically most of those people seemed to receive those views and post similar views themselves. I'm not aligned to any party, and consider myself to be liberal, but I also support the 2nd Amendment strongly, so I don't align with a majority of liberals. Also, many of the liberals, like Democrats seem that they would be happy if there was no firearms in the world at all. Those people want to take them all away...but that's not so easy since we already have them...
These two aspects (2A and Politics) made me realise that many of these people were not really my friends and don't have the same interests as me. Not only that, they really don't want to extend me the courtesy to my own view and it upsets them if I post such. Many of them were only work acquaintances. Just because I worked with someone doesn't really make them a friend, although in a number of cases that has been true, it certainly hasn't in all cases as it's our work that ties us together, and not our interest...but it's not so easy to just tell someone to go f#@$ off when they send you a FB "friend request". I'm getting better at it these days by just telling people I work with that I keep those relations on LinkedIn, and just keep them off FB to begin with.
I haven't even mentioned advertising, and being an advertising whore by just using FB. The commercial aspect is an entire topic of social networking in itself...but there's a pimp around every packet these days waiting to market and sell products to all of us on FB and it's not that it's getting that annoying, I do ignore it for the most part...it's just a poor use of data packets to be sending spam constantly...that marketing is nothing more than spam, IMO.
For me, all of this seems to be the beginning to the end on FB. Ello has the most potential so far. The interface seems to be getting better also. It seems I should start using Ello more. I read recently there is video and music here now...I need to look into that aspect, cause I didn't mention how YouTube annoys me that I have to see commercials before and during streaming...WTF type of free feed is that? Freedom is an illusion...
Sometimes you have to follow your heart...I'm trying to follow mine more so that if nothing else I can be at peace with myself.
