I had a good post going about how it takes EFFORT to make this place work, but accidentally hit the cancel button. Dammit! If you don't want to put in the work, just continue huddling together over at the equivalent of the Pacific garbage patch of social media.
We'll be fine without you here, if you'd rather not partake.
But I happen to know that many of you have a lot to say, or beautiful pictures to share, or fantastic artistic creations the world needs to see. But you have to put in the work. There is no magic bullet, but Ello sure looks and works a lot better than most of what's out there.
Ello vs. Facebook = no brainer. If you are sick and tired of shallow interactions, quizzes, advertisements and an ugly interface designed to promote advertisements, then you should be taking a look at Ello. Sure, FB is useful for keeping in touch with a lot of people, but it's more like hanging out in a bar and sharing chit-chat rather than stopping to take the time to get to know somebody in depth.
Ello vs. Google+ = close, but even better. G+ has a decent interface, but you know what bugs me? Every time I go there the posts from people I'm following are in a different order. STOP IT! I want to see posts in chronological order and not have to second guess how old something is, or if I've missed a post because G+ decided to bury it. I do sort of like auto-awesome on photos, but not enough to make me a loyal G+ user.
Ello vs. Everything Else = it's time for something new. I'm a big fan of change, and I know some things will stick and some won't. I'm hoping Ello does.
But it gets back to the original point - it won't work without YOU. Ello is comment based - you can't just 👍 or ❤️ a post and move on. If you want to acknowledge, you have to comment. Honestly, I'd rather leave three comments here on posts by strangers than 👍 fifteen posts on FB.
Here's a little plastic figure I found on the beach in Oregon last year. He's ready to fight for the good thing, and so am I.
