Romans 12:1-2 says, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Being a better Christian is all about totally surrendering your life to God. Often times, we choose to follow the parts of The Bible that we like best. We only allow God to govern parts of our lives, while we let the world govern the rest. We act like Christians, but only when we feel like it. This kind of behavior won't cut it. Nope. It's gotta go!
It's hard to completely surrender your life to Christ. No one said it was going to be easy, but it is more than worth it. Here a few steps to help you on your journey: study scripture, stay immersed in prayer, practice the actions and behaviors of a Christian (it helps by making better choices everyday), and surround yourself with other devoted Christians. Overall, you should model your life after the example Jesus left us.
It helps to make a list of the areas in your life that you need to work on. After you write down all those negative things about yourself you may feel discouraged. Don't let that list intimidate you. You have just taken a huge step in changing for the better by admitting your flaws. Now you just have to work at them. Periodically refer back to your list to see how much progress you are making. When you see how much you are improving, you will be proud of yourself and feel encouraged to keep going. That, in and of itself, is a huge blessing.
